LA Galaxy Academy split results against Real Salt Lake Academy

CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, April 30, 2014) – The LA Galaxy Academy split their series with Real Salt Lake-Arizona Academy this weekend as the LA Galaxy Academy Under-18’s defeated Real Salt Lake U-18’s 2-1 and the Galaxy Under-16’s dropped a 1-0 result to the U-16’s RSL side on Saturday.


Forwards Christian Chavez and Jorge Ruiz scored for LA's Under-18 side as they picked up a 2-1 victory over RSL-AZ's U-18 squad. Sam Gleadle tallied the lone goal for the RSL youth squad as the Galaxy U-18's moved to a 16-5-3 record for the 2013-14 USSDA campaign.


Although the Galaxy U-18's earned a win against their RSL counterparts, the Galaxy U-16's weren't as lucky as they fell 1-0 to Salt Lake. Tate Schmitt scored the only goal of the match as the Galaxy U-16's fell to 16-2-6 on the season. Earlier this month, the LA Galaxy U-16’s qualified for the 2013-2014 Academy Playoffs as the team received an automatic bid to the 2013-14 Postseason.


Both the Galaxy Academy U-18’s and U-16’s will have a bye weekend from USSDA play and will return to action on Saturday, May 10 when they face Nomads SC at StubHub Center's Field 5.  


LA GALAXY U-14’S HOST FC GOLDEN STATE ON SATURDAY:  The LA Galaxy Academy Under-14 side will host FC Golden State Under-14’s at StubHub Center's Field 5 on Saturday, May 3, at 10:00 a.m. Currently, the Galaxy Academy U-14’s are 13-4-3 this USSDA season with 42 points in the Southwest Division standings. In their last encounter last November, the LA Galaxy U-14’s suffered a 3-1 loss to FC Golden State at University of California, Riverside in what was the team’s second loss of the season.


LA GALAXY ACADEMY U-16 AND U-14 TEAMS ADVANCE IN NATIONAL CUP: The LA Galaxy Academy Under-16 and Under-14 teams have advanced to the next round of Cal South’s National Cup after a successful weekend in the Lancaster National Soccer Complex in Lancaster, Calif. Both the Galaxy U-16 and U-14 sides qualified to the Round of 32 that will take place this Saturday in Lancaster. The Galaxy Academy U-16’s will face Santa Barbara SC U-16 on Saturday, May 3 at the Lancaster National Soccer Complex Field 22 at 8:00 a.m. If the Galaxy U-16’s advance to the next stage, they will play the Round of 16 match on Saturday, May 10. The Galaxy Academy U-14’s will play the Los Angeles Futbol Academy in the Round of 32 on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at the Lancaster National Soccer Complex Field 27. If the Galaxy U-14’s prove victorious against LAFA, they will play the Round of 16 match a day later, on Sunday, May 4. This year’s final championship match is set to take place at Rancho Capistrano on Saturday, May 17 at 10 a.m. PT for the U-14’s and Sunday, May 18 at 11:30 a.m. for the U-16’s. The winning teams in each category will go on to represent Cal South at the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regionals in Albuquerque, N.M. from June 16-22. The winners from the regionals will then move on to the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship to be held in Maryland from July 21-27.


LA GALAXY ACADEMY U-12 NORTH SET TO PARTICIPATE IN VOLKSWAGEN JR. MASTERS: The LA Galaxy Academy Under-12 North are set to participate in the Volkswagen Junior Masters tournament this weekend as part of the Los Angeles regional tournament hosted by West Coast FC. The Volkswagen Jr. Masters is one of the largest youth soccer tournaments in the world, specifically targeting the Boys U-12 age group. Played in over 22 countries worldwide, the tournament brings each Nation's champion team together culminating in a biennial International Championship, set to be hosted in Rome this spring .The Galaxy Under-12’s were placed in Bracket A along with Strikers FC Academy, Arsenal FC Academy and Oceanside Breakers. The Galaxy U-12’s will first play the Strikers Academy at the University of California, Irvine’s Crawford Field 1 at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 3. The U-12 North will then play its second match later that same day against Oceanside Breakers at UC Irvine’s Crawford Field 1 at 1:30 p.m. The Galaxy U-12 North concludes Bracket A play against Arsenal FC Academy on Sunday, May 4 at UC Irvine’s Crawford Field 3 at 8:30 a.m.


HANIF WRIGHT SCORES IN U.S. U-15 WIN OVER CHINA U-16 NATIONAL TEAM: LA Galaxy Academy forward Hanif Wright scored the opening goal in the U.S. Under-15 Boys' National Team 3-2 victory over the China PR U-16’s on Monday in its final game of the 2014 Torneo delle Nazioni tournament. Playing against older competition throughout the first international tournament for this current crop of U-15s, the U.S. finished in third place of Group C behind U-16 Men’s teams from Slovenia and Mexico and ahead of China. The team will next gather for a domestic training camp in July at U.S. Soccer's National Training Center in Carson, California. Wright has been one of the shining stars of the Galaxy U-14 side with 13 goals in 15 games during the U.S. Soccer Development Academy campaign as the team has enjoy a 13-4-3 record this season.  


LA GALAXY ACADEMY AND U.S. UNDER-17 FORWARD HAJI WRIGHT TRAINS WITH FIRST TEAM: There was a new face at LA Galaxy training on Tuesday as U.S. Under-17 and Galaxy Academy forward Haji Wright trained with LA's first team.  Wright has been one of the breakout stars of head coach Richie Williams' U.S. U-17 squad over the past six months with his five-goal Golden Boot performance at the Nike International Friendlies and solid two-goal showing during the Aegean Cup in January. The teenager kept up his scalding form with six goals as he helped lead the U.S. Under-17's to victory in the 2014 Josip Katalinski International Tournament in Bosnia earlier this month. The victory in Bosnia was the Americans third consecutive international tournament title. Wright added another during the Americans two-game series with the Croatian U-17's to give him a total of seven goals during the Americans' Balkans trip.


SUEÑO MLS FINALISTS CHOSEN: Major League Soccer and LA Galaxy announced today the names of five talented young field players and one “Good Hands®” top goalkeeper - El Portero Allstate finalist who will represent the club at the National Final of Sueño MLS 2014– Presented by Allstate. They will be joined by the six finalists selected last week at the Colorado Rapids trials, and six more players to be selected this weekend at the New York Red Bulls trials. Nearly 1,000 hopefuls registered to participate in the LA Galaxy trials, which took place this past weekend in Bell gardens, Cal. The nationally-televised player search is showcased on Univision Network’s República Deportiva, the popular weekly Spanish-language sports show that chronicles the tryouts in a “reality show within a show” format.
