CARSON, Calif. (Sunday, June 1, 2014) – LA Galaxy II (7-2-3, 24 points) defeated the Seattle Sounders FC 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Starfire Stadium.
Los Dos forward Chandler Hoffman scored the second-half game-winner for Galaxy II while goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann made four saves for Sounders FC.
Galaxy II netted the winner in the 76th minute when Aleksandar Djokovic’s cross found Hoffman at the far post and he slotted it past Hahnemann for the game's lone goal.
Seattle nearly scored just five minutes earlier when Cam Weaver flicked a cross into the box from the left side, but Duncan McCormick's headed attempt sailed over the crossbar.
Sounder’s Andy Rose nearly opened the scoring in the 15th minute. Midfielder Aaron Kovar sent a free kick to the far post where Rose's header was stopped by Los Dos goalkeeper Cody Laurendi.
Seattle's Sean Okoli created several scoring opportunities throughout the match. In the 42nd minute, he got into the box following a goal kick but was taken down by a well-timed tackle. In the opening minutes of the second half, Okoli sent a pair of dangerous crosses into the penalty area that barely missed his teammates.
LA hit the frame twice. In the third minute, Galaxy Homegrown Player Bradford Jamieson IV cut inside his defender but his shot from the left side of the box bounced off the far post. In the 51st minute, forward Jack McBean flicked a shot over Hahnemann that ricocheted off the crossbar and back into play.
Seattle's Tristan Bowen left the match in the 11th minute following a yellow card tackle by defender Daniel Steres and Andy Rose was replaced by Duncan McCormick in the 33rd minute after suffering an injury.
LA Galaxy II will return home as they play host to the Dayton Dutch Lions on Sunday, June 8 at 8:00 p.m. PT at StubHub Center’s main soccer stadium as part of a double header with the LA Galaxy who will take on Chivas USA in the SuperClasico at 5:00 p.m. PT.
