Reintroducing the LA Galaxy supporters groups

Supporters

A chapter of LA Galaxy and MLS history will come to a close on Sunday when LA take on their cross-hall rivals Chivas USA in the final SuperClasico.

For the final edition of the SuperClasico, LAGalaxy.com will be highlighting the team’s supporters and their contributions to the atmosphere at StubHub Center.

Before Sunday’s match with Chivas USA, let’s take a quick look at each of the three LA Galaxy’s Supporters Groups and their own unique characteristics.

ANGEL CITY BRIGADE

  • Established in 2007
  • Location: Section 121

The largest Galaxy supporters group, the Angel City Brigade are instantly recognizable by their presence behind the north goal in section 121. The ACB were established in late 2007 by six Galaxy fans who sought to create a group that provided a load and raucous atmosphere at StubHub Center. Adorned in all-white, the Angel City Brigade have earned a reputation for creating elaborate tifo displays. The Galaxy honor the ACB’s dedication with a postgame victory salute that was started by former team captain Gregg Berhalter.

GALAXIANS

  • Established: 1996
  • Location: Section 120

The Galaxy’s first supporters group, the Galaxians were founded during the team’s inaugural season in 1996. Due to their connection with the team’s history, the Galaxians don the yellow-and-green color scheme that was a staple on Galaxy jerseys from 1997 to 2007. The Galaxians banner has been present at each of the club’s four MLS Cup championships. A bilingual group, the Galaxians chant in English and in Spanish as they seek to add to the stadium atmosphere.

LA RIOT SQUAD

  • Established: 2002
  • Location: Section 138

Perhaps no supporters group in MLS has as unique of a back story as the LA Riot Squad. After the 2001 season, Galaxy goalkeeper Kevin Hartman presented a Galaxy fan with a unique challenge during a team dinner: if that fan gathered 100 others for next season’s opening day match, Hartman would buy the group a keg of beer.  More than 100 plus supporters heeded Hartman’s call and the Riot Squad were born. Since then, LARS have provided a raucous atmosphere from their post in section 138.
