LA Galaxy II defeat Sacramento Republic FC on the road

CARSON, Calif. (Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014) – LA Galaxy II (15-7-6, 51 points) earned a 2-1 victory on the road against second-place Sacramento Republic FC in the final match of the USL PRO Regular Season, handing the hosts just their second loss of the season at Bonney Field. With the result, Curt Onalfo’s side has clinched a third-place finish in USL PRO and a home playoff match at StubHub Center Saturday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. PT, with free entry and parking available to all fans.

Los Dos took the lead just inside of 20 minutes when Jack McBean scored his fourth goal of the season. Midfielder Dragan Stojkov played a ball behind the defense from the right side of the field to McBean, who calmly placed a one-touch shot past the Sacramento goalkeeper.

After halftime, McBean scored his second of the match in the 59th minute, doubling the lead for Galaxy II. Forward Charlie Rugg fired a shot from outside the 18 that was pushed out wide by Republic goalkeeper Dominic Jakubek as McBean followed up the rebound to fire it in.

Sacramento Republic FC got one back in the 69th minute as Max Alvarez curled in a free kick from just outside the box to make it 2-1. Alvarez whipped in a ball to the near post, just past the fingertips of a diving Brian Perk and into the net.

Minutes before the final whistle, Perk made a heroic save to preserve the victory. Sacramento’s Emrah Klimenta found space in front of net for an open header to the bottom right corner of the net, but Perk dove backwards and swatted the ball off the line before a Los Dos defender cleared it away.

Galaxy II will play their first-ever USL PRO Playoff match Saturday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. PT, with the opponent determined following tomorrow’s match between the Wilmington Hammerheads and Rochester Rhinos. The match, played at StubHub Center, will feature free entry and parking for all fans in attendance.
