Jaime Penedo and Panama qualify for 2015 Gold Cup with 2-0 win over Nicaragua

LA Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo and Panama are going to the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, but their dreams of playing in the Copa CentroAmericana Final and a chance at the 2016 Copa America Centenario fell just short on Wednesday.

Panama earned a 2-0 victory over Nicaragua at Houston's BBVA Compass Stadium, but were unable to earn the three goal victory that could have placed them in a random draw with Costa Rica for a berth in the Central American final. Blas Perez and Roman Torres scored the goals for Panama in the victory. Los Canaleros will now face Honduras in the third place game at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday evening.

With Panama already through to the CONCACAF Gold Cup, questions remained on whether Penedo would opt to return to the Galaxy, but the goalkeeper told reporters in Texas that he hopes to stay with the national side.
