Landon Donovan closing in on best all-time single season assist mark

CARSON, Calif. – Landon Donovan has cemented his place as the league’s all-time assist king by pulling level with New England Revolution mainstay Steve Ralston’s record of 135 career assists, but he also has a chance to have one of the best assist seasons in league history.


Donovan has tallied a league-leading 18 assists which is the highest total in seven seasons. With one more assist this season; Donovan will not only take sole possession of the record, but also tie five other players who tallied a total of 19 helpers in a single season.


Even if Donovan can take sole possession of the second highest single season assist total, it’ll be a stretch for him to catch Valderrama’s top mark of 26 assists in the 2006.
