CARSON, Calif. – The king is back.

LA Galaxy captain and reigning league MVP Robbie Keane trained for the first time in 2015 on Monday just hours after arriving from his native Dublin where he spent the offseason.

Keane who led the club to their fifth MLS Cup a year ago with a stellar season that saw him score 23 goals and 18 assists in all competitions admitted that he was eager to get back to work.

“It’s nice to be back training again,” Keane told reporters after the team’s training session. “It was nice to be back at home with the family and see all my friends and family, but the last few weeks, I’ve been itching to get back playing again.”

Although Keane has been a fixture on the Galaxy since Aug. 2011, the 2015 preseason will be the Irishman’s first full preseason with the club after missing out on prior training camps due to loans to EPL or injury.

Whereas last year Keane was limited after undergoing surgery on both of his Achilles, the Irishman has arrived healthy this offseason even playing in five-aside games with his friends during the offseason.

“He’s doing fine,” said Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena of Keane’s fitness. “He looks alright because he’s done a little work at home.”
