New LA Galaxy signing Steven Gerrard and Liverpool FC fall to Chelsea in League Cup semifinal

Steven Gerrard and Liverpool FC fell short of their dreams of reaching the League Cup final on Tuesday as they fell 1-0 in extra time to Premier League rivals Chelsea to drop their series 2-1 on aggregate.

The new LA Galaxy Designated Player who will arrive at StubHub Center in July started the match and went the full 120 minutes as Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic scored the series-winner in the 94th minute of play. After both sides split the glories at Anfield with a 1-1 draw, Gerrard and Liverpool found themselves embroiled in a physical contest at Stamford Bridge that was even until Invanovic's winning free kick.

Although they were bounced from the League Cup, Gerrard and the rest of the Reds still have hope for silverware this year in the FA Cup. Liverpool are scheduled to take on Bolton in their fourth-round replay match at Macron Stadium on Feb. 4.
