CARSON, Calif. – Gyasi Zardes earned his first career start for the U.S. national team and Jaime Penedo set a personal milestone for Panama as the USMNT picked up a 2-0 victory over Panama on Sunday at StubHub Center.

Michael Bradley scored an olimpico goal off a corner kick give the Americans the lead after 27 minutes and 10 minutes later, a Zardes through-ball resulted in a Clint Dempsey goal and a 2-0 U.S. lead.

While he did not get on the board, the match was of great importance for Hawthorne’s Zardes who performed ably in his first start for the U.S. in just two appearances. Meanwhile, Penedo made his 100th appearance, joining midfielder Gabriel Gomez, as the only players to reach the century mark in appearances for the Central American nation. The Galaxy’s ‘keeper was honored pregame with a special ceremony courtesy the Panamanian federation.
