CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, April 8, 2015) – The LA Galaxy announced today that the club will host tryouts for the LA Galaxy Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) Unified Team on May 3 at StubHub Center, beginning at 2:15 p.m. PT. The first 100 registrants will be able to participate in the LA Galaxy SOSC Unified Team event on May 3rd with approximately 50 members selected to travel with the group for various competitions throughout 2015.

The LA Galaxy SOSC Unified Soccer program is a partnership between the LA Galaxy and Special Olympics Southern California that provides unique training, competitions and social experiences for not only individuals with intellectual disabilities, but for everyone involved. This coed team, made up of players with and without intellectual disabilities ages 14-22, will play matches against other MLS-affiliated Special Olympics Unified Soccer teams from other states. Players will also have an opportunity to interact with LA Galaxy players during the exchanges. Expenses are covered through the LA Galaxy-SOSC partnership and there is no cost for individuals to participate.
After team selection, players will be required to officially register as a Special Olympics athlete (person with an intellectual disability) or a Special Olympics Unified Partner (person without an intellectual disability). Players will also be required to attend bi-weekly practices starting in June. Potential game dates are August 15 at Dallas and September 26 at home vs. FC Dallas.
The goal of Unified Sports is to bring people with and without disabilities together to compete, learn and grow on the same team – as equals.
