Understrength LA Galaxy extend their winning streak to two with dramatic victory over Sporting KC

CARSON, Calif. – After their dramatic 2-1 victory over Sporting KC, the LA Galaxy find themselves riding a two-game winning streak, but what is most impressive about the team’s recent run aren’t the wins themselves, but how they’ve dealt with adversity.

They’ve done it without valuable weapons like Jose Villarreal and Mika Vayrynen. They’ve done it with Omar Gonzalez and Gyasi Zardes starting one game on the bench. But most of all, they’ve won with Galaxy captain Robbie Keane missing both matches due to a groin strain. In their absences, players like Rafael Garcia, Baggio Husidic and Bradford Jamieson IV have stepped up and produced for the Galaxy.

Whereas in past seasons a lengthy absence to Keane meant struggles for the Galaxy, this year, they’ve been able to string together a pair of victories while their captain is on the mend.

“This is a team that lined up with a lot of guys out [on injury] and it says a lot about our depth and our character,” said forward Alan Gordon, who has been one of the players who have stepped up in Keane's absence. “We got back to back wins now at home with less than 100 percent roster and guys stepping up each week and filling spots, it’s great and it’s good to see.”
