U.S. Women's National Team release... interesting new uniforms ahead of the 2015 World Cup

U.S. Women's National Team release... interesting new uniforms ahead of the 2015 World Cup -

There's nothing like a U.S. jersey release to get the American soccer universe all aflutter. The latest recipient of that rancor is the U.S. Women's National Team.

On Wednesday, the USWNT released some, well, interesting new home kits for the upcoming 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup that opt for a simple black and white color scheme that is a stark contrast from the Star-spangled glory of their away uniforms

But what is the most shocking about the jerseys are not the black and white primary colors of the kit but the fact that the socks will include a "volt yellow" color (that looks a lot like the color green) which is designed to pull the eye to the action on the field. Yes, you read that correctly. A U.S. National Team is wearing green for a World Cup.

Nike also released specialized women-only cleats that according to a press release, "combine flashes of volt yellow with a striking ‘Blue Lagoon’ color, a nod to the famous lakes of 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup host nation Canada."
So green socks, black and white jersey, and Canadian-inspired boots? God Bless America.
If there is a saving grace for the uniform, it's the inclusion of a "blue triangular pennant design with 13 white stars." According to the U.S. Soccer release, the design is "a numeric reference to the original US colonies and a visual reference to the American flag."

What do you think of the U.S. Women's National Team kits? Hoping that the men don't copy the uniform?
