Midfielder Mika Vayrynen left wanting more from his first LA Galaxy start in a month

CARSON, Calif. – Midfielder Mika Vayrynen was left wanting much more from himself after making his first start in a month in the LA Galaxy’s bland 1-1 draw with the Colorado Rapids.

In his first match back from a calf injury that limited to second half cameos in the Galaxy’s last two minutes, Vayrynen went 58 minutes as the Galaxy struggled against a feisty Rapids squad.

With midfield regular Juninho being rested, Vayrynen was placed alongside Rafael Garcia, and was given the responsibility of moving the attack forward, but quickly ran into trouble against a Rapids squad that was content to flood the midfield and break up any Galaxy forays up field.

As Colorado packing the center of the park, Vayrynen saw his impact wane as he was unable to use his superior passing ability to connect with forwards Bradford Jamieson IV and Gyasi Zardes.

“That was my first game back in the starting lineup in a few weeks, which was a bit of a struggle,” he said. “I didn’t get the passing I involved that I would like to bring to the team. So it wasn’t the best, but hopefully I get a couple more games and get back to being in form again.”
