Jose Villarreal rules himself out of upcoming LA Galaxy road trip

CARSON, Calif. -- Count Jose Villarreal out of the LA Galaxy's upcoming eight day road trip.

The Galaxy midfielder told reporters on Monday that due to his nagging left hamstring strain, he'd be unable to participate in the club's upcoming road trip. After a sizzling start to the season, the last month has been a frustrating one for the 21-year-old as he has twice dealt with a left hamstring strain that resurfaced once more during the U.S U-23 match with the Mexico U-23's on April 22.

Villarreal admitted after that match that he may have rushed himself back from injury by not getting a proper warm-up before taking the field for the U.S. U-23 squad, but now the young midfielder is determined to be patient and heal properly.

"I hope that next week, I'll be in full training but this week is going to be about getting fit and building my base back up again. It looks I'll be good in two weeks," said Villarreal who expects to rehab with Galaxy II while the first team is away. "I'm not trying to push it to where I can re-injure it and then be out for another month. We're taking things pretty slowly here."
