LA Galaxy to honor Los Angeles Unified School District Saturday

CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, June 2, 2015) – LA Galaxy will honor the Los Angeles Unified School District this Saturday, June 6 at StubHub Center for the match against the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, with the night benefitting LAUSD’s Beyond the Bell Afterschool Program and Homeless Education Program.


Fans are encouraged to bring school supplies for the Stuff the Bus initiative that will benefit the Homeless Education Program by providing materials from the following list: Backpack, Spiral Notebook, Hand Writing Paper, Pack of Filler Paper (college rule), Folders, 3 Ring Binder, Pack of Dividers with tabs, Glue Sticks, Box of Pencils, Box of Blue or Black Pens, Box of Crayons or Colored Pencils, Highlighters, Pair of Safety Scissors, Eraser(s), Manual Pencil Sharpener, Ruler, Dictionary, Thesaurus, Correction Tape and Calculator.


Fans can drop off school supplies at the collection tables set-up outside the Northwest entrance gate from 5:30-7:30 p.m. PT.


Additionally, LAUSD’s Beyond the Bell Afterschool Program will host their Middle School All-star Game on Field 5, starting at 5:30 p.m. PT. The Beyond the Bell Afterschool Program manages the majority of LAUSD sport programming,


In support of the Beyond the Bell Program, LA Galaxy visited LAUSD elementary schools through the 20 for Twenty community program in celebration of Read Across America earlier this year. The event encouraged students to begin their participation in the LA Galaxy Kick Start Reading Challenge, which rewards students after reading a select amount of minutes to receive various LA Galaxy items. In total, approximately 3,500 students from Southern California participated in the Kick Start Reading Challenge.


The winner of the LA Galaxy Kick Start Reading Challenge will be honored during the game Saturday at StubHub Center for reading over 4,000+ minutes over the course of two months.


For more information, Beyond the Bell Afterschool Program and Homeless Education Program will have booths during SoccerFest before the game on Saturday.
