Three Points: LA Galaxy run rampant against Portland Timbers, 5-0

CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Points from the Galaxy’s 5-0 win over the Portland Timbers.

LA GALAXY JUMP ON TIMBERS EARLY

The LA Galaxy seem to be hitting their stride just in time for the arrival of new Designated Player Steven Gerrard.

The Galaxy jumped on the Timbers early and often with three goals in the opening 35 minutes to overwhelm a Portland side that had conceded just once in their previous four games. LA added goals from Juninho in the 72nd minute and Jose Villarreal in the 85th to complete the rout. In total, the Galaxy have scored 16 goals in their last three matches while only conceding twice. For a second straight game, five different scorers tallied in an LA victory.

On the defensive end, the Galaxy gave the Timbers no quarter as they suffocated the Portland midfield. Thanks to the organized Galaxy defense, the Timbers did not register a shot on goal until the 82nd minute.

ROBBIE ROGERS FINALLY SCORES FOR THE GALAXY

Robbie Rogers has come agonizingly to scoring his first goal for the LA Galaxy numerous times, and on the club’s Pride Night, the defender finally broke through.

Rogers’ goal came in the 33rd minute when Robbie Keane delivered a perfectly weighted ball to the left back who then fired a right-footed blast past Timbers goalkeeper Adam Kwarsey for his first goal since joining the club in 2013.  After the goal, Rogers was mobbed by his teammates in a touching scene given his scoring struggles.

The goal was Rogers’ first tally since he scored for the Columbus Crew back on April 16, 2011.

SEBASTIAN LLETGET EXTENDS SCORING STREAK

Count Sebastian Lletget among the list of players who have had their career restored by head coach Bruce Arena.

Lletget opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a finish off a Dan Gargan pass for his fourth goal in four straight games for the Galaxy across all competitions. The 22-year-old was not done then as he won a penalty just four minutes later that helped kickstart the Galaxy’s win.

Given Lletget’s stellar play as of late, the midfielder will have every chance to continue to remain in the Galaxy lineup.
