The LA Galaxy are reportedly inching closer to signing Mexican international Giovani Dos Santos according to various reports.

Spanish publication El Periodico Mediterrano reported the move on Tuesday stating that La Liga club Villarreal is in “advanced discussions” with the Galaxy which could see Dos Santos transferred to the Major League Soccer outfit for more than 7 million Euros.

Since the initial report, other publications have stepped forward including Goal.com’s Ives Galarcep who reported that the Galaxy are indeed in talks with the Mexican international. On Wednesday, various publications quoted Dos Santos’ agent who stated that the negotiations between the Mexican international and the Galaxy are “very advanced.”

How might a deal occur, however? Given the Galaxy already have three Designated Players in Steven Gerrard, Robbie Keane and Omar Gonzalez, Galarcep reports that the league will be implementing a new player mechanism which will essentially act as a fourth DP slot for clubs.

If Dos Santos does move to the Galaxy, he brings an impressive pedigree having played with such clubs as FC Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur, Galatasaray and Villarreal. An established player on the Mexican National Team, Dos Santos has accumulated 86 caps for the senior squad with 16 goals. Dos Santos is currently with El Tri as they prepare for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
