CARSON, Calif. – Could Steven Gerrard make his debut in an LA Galaxy jersey against Club America on Saturday?

Well, anything is possible according to head coach Bruce Arena.

The new Galaxy midfielder hinted during his opening remarks in his debut preference “Saturday can’t come quick enough,” which may set the stage for Gerrard to earn his first minutes in an LA kit against Mexican side Club America.

As excited as Gerrard is to make his debut, the LA head coach told reporters that he’ll look to ease his new English midfielder into the squad but admitted that he’ll be ready to play 90 minutes for the Galaxy “in the near future.”

“Anything is possible. We’re going to play it out,” Arena said. “I don’t think there is any perfect way of how we place our team on the field for these next three games. It’s going to take a little thinking, but we want to get through the game on Saturday before we worry about the next game [on Tuesday against Real Salt Lake].”

As for how his new midfielder will adapt to the league after playing at Liverpool FC for nearly 20 years, Arena responded in his own classic manner.

“I’m going to make sure that I warm up a bottle of milk for him,” Arena said jokingly. “This is a man that has played in World Cups and traveled all over the world. He’s well-prepared for this move. He’s done his homework, and his family is well-prepared. He did his work very smoothly.

“This transition is not going to be perfect but I think that it’s going to go as well as one could expect.”
