LA Galaxy face Real Salt Lake and San Jose Earthquakes | Weekly Schedule

CARSON, Calif. (Monday, July 13, 2015) – The LA Galaxy will play in two matches this week, beginning Tuesday, July 14 when they travel to take on Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium at 7 p.m. PT in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal matchup. The Galaxy will then host the San Jose Earthquakes at StubHub Center in the California Clasico this Friday, July 17 at 8 p.m. PT live on UniMas. LA Galaxy II return home for a match Thursday, July 16 at 7:30 p.m. PT against Orange County Blues FC at StubHub Center.

The Galaxy have reached the U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinals stage for the first time since 2011 and were the only road team to advance past the Round of 16 in this year’s tournament. The Galaxy are 25-12-1 all-time in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. They have entered the competition every year since 1999, winning in 2001 and 2005 while reaching the Open Cup Final on two other occasions. Should the Galaxy advance, they would face the Central bracket winner between Houston Dynamo and Sporting Kansas City in the Open Cup Semifinals on Aug. 11 or Aug. 12.

In the California Clasico, the Galaxy have earned a 27-19-12 record against their Northern California rivals, scoring 90 goals. Saturday’s match will mark the third of four matches in all competitions between the two sides this year. In their first contest, the Galaxy fell 3-1 to the Earthquakes at Stanford Stadium on June 27. LA then defeated San Jose in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 at Avaya Stadium on July 1 behind a first-half goal from Jose Villarreal.

The Galaxy earned a 2-1 victory over Mexico’s Club América Saturday night at StubHub Center in an International Champions Cup contest. Robbie Keane equalized in the first half before Alan Gordon recorded an 80th-minute game winner.

LA Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard is set to make his MLS debut at StubHub Center this Friday, July 17 against the Earthquakes. Gerrard made his first appearance for the Galaxy Saturday against Club América.
