LA Galaxy club President Chris Klein will be inducted into Sporting Kansas City's Sporting Legends Hall of Honor on Saturday with a halftime ceremony during Sporting's match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Sporting announced on Thursday.
Drafted by the then-Wizards in 1998 out of the University of Indiana, Klein played eight seasons in Kansas City, tallying 43 goals and 54 assists in 235 games for the club. His combined goal and assist total places him second all-time on Kansas City's scoring chart.
During his time with the Wizards, Klein led the club to three domestic trophies including the MLS Cup and Supporters' Shield double in the 2000 season.
“This is very well-deserved recognition for Kleiny in a career full of achievements,” Sporting KC Manager Peter Vermes said in a release. “Chris has dedicated his life to growing Major League Soccer and has always been a tireless ambassador for the sport. He has left a lasting legacy in Kansas City’s soccer scene and we’re thrilled to welcome him back.”
Klein is the seventh inductee into the Sporting Legends Hall of Honor since 2013.
