Match Preview: LA Galaxy Special Olympics Unified Team looking for home win over FC Dallas

CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy Special Olympics Unified Team will look to complete an undefeated season on Sunday when they host FC Dallas immediately following the first team’s match with the Texas team on the StubHub Center main stadium field.

The Galaxy Special Olympics team defeated FC Dallas 3-2 at Toyota Stadium on August 15. Galaxy SOSC forward Carlos Arriaza tallied two goals in the dramatic comeback win while Rafael Lopez added the third goal.

Despite their victory in Frisco, the Galaxy SOSC team is not underestimating Dallas.

“FC Dallas is a really good team. They play with speed and a lot of through balls from their playmaker in the center of midfield,” said SOSC athlete Louis Guan. “We can’t underestimate them, and if we can contain their midfielder, then we have a chance of winning this game.

“This game is important. Winning away is great, but at home, we want to have an advantage. We have to score more and try to keep possession, and keep them off the board.”

As exciting as their trip to Texas was, the Galaxy SOSC side is eager to play in front of their friends and family at StubHub Center.

“I feel excited because it’s the home to the Galaxy who are the best team in MLS,” Guan said. “I feel so much pride and so much accomplishment to play on one of the best fields in MLS.”

Said head coach Karin Moore, “It is such an honor. Not many athletes can say that they have had the opportunity to compete at StubHub Center. We are honored to grace the field that has been home to so many legends.”

Regardless of the result on Sunday, all of the members of the Galaxy Unified team are incredibly pleased with their experience.

“It’s been a great experience because I’ve got to play with better players. I’ve got to know their strengths and their personalities,” said Guan. “Winning will be a team effort. We’ve accomplished a lot by winning away in Dallas, but winning at home will be an even greater accomplishment to us and our fans.”

Added Head Coach Candice Villagran, “Playing at the StubHub Center validates our place in the LA Galaxy family. The support for our team has been overwhelming. LA Galaxy players, staff, and fans have all been incredibly supportive of our team. We’re hoping to have a great turn out on Sunday and honored that we are being featured as a double header with the first team.”
