Bruce Arena focused on helping the LA Galaxy qualify for the playoffs rather than Supporters' Shield chase | INSIDER

CARSON, Calif.  -- The LA Galaxy are in pole position for the MLS Supporters' Shield heading into their final three games of the season, but that's of little concern to head coach Bruce Arena.

The Galaxy can clinch a berth in the 2015 MLS Cup  Playoffs with a victory this Sunday over Seattle Sounders FC or a draw and a myriad of results.  Despite being close to a playoff berth, the Galaxy do not control their own destiny in terms of the Shield as games in hand for the New York Red Bulls, FC Dallas and Vancouver Whitecaps FC could see them leapfrog Los Angeles.

However, that is of little concern to Arena who is purely focused on guiding the Galaxy to the playoffs.

"That's not the focus of our team. The focus on our team is getting to the playoffs," Arena said. "That's our first objective. If we play well on the field and win games, all that stuff will take care of itself."

But is it important for Arena's Galaxy to finish in the top two of Western Conference and secure home field advantage for at least one round of the playoffs?

"It's certainly helpful. We've been in all sorts of positions. You can win as the six seed or you can win as the first seed," Arena said.  "Whatever that stuff means, you can figure it out yourself. I haven't found it to necessarily mean anything."
