Forward Robbie Keane departs for international duty with Ireland

CARSON, Calif. (Monday, Oct. 5, 2015) – LA Galaxy forward Robbie Keane has been called up to Ireland for UEFA European Championship 2016 Qualifying Round matches against Germany on Oct. 8 and Poland on Oct. 11.

Keane and Ireland will host Group D leaders Germany at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland on Thursday, Oct. 8 before traveling to Poland for a match at Stadion Narodowy on Sunday, Oct. 11. Keane will return to the Galaxy and be available for selection in LA’s next match, set for Sunday, Oct. 18, against Portland Timbers FC at StubHub Center (4 p.m. PT, FOX Sports 1, FOX Deportes).

Keane, 35, is Ireland’s captain and leader for the most goals and appearances all time for his country. He has helped Ireland to earn 15 points from eight matches in Group D of EURO 2016 Qualifying, good enough for third place, only behind Germany and Poland. This year in MLS, Keane has recorded 17 goals total, including 14 goals in his last 12 matches. In his LA Galaxy career, the Designated Player has now scored 70 goals and recorded 43 assists in 106 MLS matches.

Keane joins forward Gyasi Zardes (USMNT) on international duty during the Galaxy’s break in MLS play this weekend.
