Gabriel Brener acquires AEG's ownership interests in the Houston Dynamo | INSIDER

Houston Dynamo

Gabriel Brener has acquired Anschutz Entertainment Group's operating rights in the Houston Dynamo, NWSL’s Houston Dash, and BBVA Compass Stadium, the club announced on Tuesday

AEG has held a controlling interest in the franchise's operating rights since 2002 when they were the San Jose Earthquakes. In 2008, two years after the club relocated to Houston, AEG sold partial ownership interests in the franchise to Brener and Golden Boy CEO and boxing champion, Oscar De La Hoya.

“We want to thank the Dynamo fans for their passion and tremendous support since we arrived in Houston in 2006,” said AEG President and CEO, Dan Beckerman. “Since he joined our ownership group in 2008, we could not have asked for a better partner than Gabriel Brener. He has been a driving force behind the Dynamo and his love for this city and this franchise make him the perfect leader for this team moving forward.”
Added Brener, “I am honored to become the new managing partner of the Houston Dynamo. I’d like to thank Mr. Phil Anschutz and the AEG organization for being great partners over the years. Mr. Anschutz has been critical to the development of MLS and the game in the United States, and for that I thank him."

With Brener's acquisition of the Dynamo, there are no longer any ownership groups with majority interests in multiple MLS clubs.
