Report: LA Galaxy 'close' to signing England international Ashley Cole | INSIDER

The LA Galaxy may be close to signing former England international Ashley Cole according to a report in the Los Angeles Times

In an interview with L.A. Times reporter Kevin Baxter, Galaxy head coach and general manager Bruce Arena declined to comment on the reports linking the Galaxy with Cole, but said that the speculation is "fairly accurate." Another Galaxy official quoted in the article admitted that a formal announcement of the defender's signing is "close."

One of the most accomplished English defenders of the modern era, the 35-year-old defender last played for Italian side AS Roma. To sign the former England international, Baxter states that the Galaxy will likely need to use their entire fund of targeted allocation money obtained in the recent sale of Omar Gonzalez and Juninho.

The rumored Cole signing might not be the only one made this offseason according to Arena, who specified that the Galaxy are hoping to add "three or four" players this preseason.

“We’re going to feel comfortable about our backline and goalkeeping,” Arena told Baxter. “With some of the other moves we’re going to have before camp starts, we’re going to show that we’re going to be stronger in our attacking positions as well.”
