The National Football League will decide next week on whether professional football will return to Los Angeles for the first time in more than two decades, and this could have ramifications for StubHub Center and the city of Carson.
Three teams (Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, and St. Louis Rams) submitted applications on Monday for a move to Los Angeles which has been without an NFL team since the end of the 1994 season.
"The applications will be reviewed this week by league staff and three league committees that will meet in New York on Wednesday and Thursday -- the Los Angeles Opportunities, Stadium, and Finance committees," the NFL said in a statement on Monday. "The applications will be presented for consideration at next week's league meeting in Houston on Tuesday and Wednesday. The relocation of a franchise requires the affirmative vote of three-quarters of the NFL clubs (24 of 32)."
The applications for the Raiders and Chargers are of particular note as both teams are touting a stadium in Carson for the 2019 NFL season. Meanwhile, the Rams, who are owned by Colorado Rapids and Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke, have a competing stadium plan in the nearby city of Inglewood that is also projected to open in three years.
Before any of the glittery new stadiums open, however, reports suggest that StubHub Center could be used as a temporary venue for an arriving NFL team.
Chatter about StubHub Center's potential use as a temporary NFL stadium began in last July when the
Los Angeles Times reported that the venue had been asked by the NFL to submit a bid as a temporary location

Raiders and Chargers have held discussions with StubHub Center regarding training and game site operations
