Ashley Cole using disappointing ending at Roma to fuel him with the LA Galaxy | INSIDER

CARSON, Calif. – The last two years have not been kind to Ashley Cole, and the veteran English defender is eager to get back to the top with the LA Galaxy.

The Galaxy announced the signing of the 35-year-old left back on Wednesday following a long courtship with the player. Cole joins the Galaxy after a disappointing two seasons with AS Roma that saw the defender play just 11 games for the Giallorossi.

As he prepares to head to Los Angeles, Cole is using his failed stint in Italy as motivation to produce right away for the Galaxy.

“After the career that I had at Arsenal and Chelsea, I thought that by coming to Roma, I could try something new with a new language and a new culture,” Cole told LA Galaxy Insider. “I wanted to try to help Roma win the league and give the fans something that they hadn’t had in a long time. Obviously, that didn’t work out how I planned, but I think that now I have to prove to people that I can still play.

“I didn’t get a chance to play much at Roma for nine months, but I’ve been motivating myself to stay fit and see the bigger picture. When I got the phone call from the Galaxy, I was excited, and the process was a bit nerve-racking.  I’m a person who is motivated and eager to win trophies, wherever it may be.”
