CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy made a move upward in the three noteworthy MLS power rankings after their 3-1 victory over a 10-man San Jose Earthquakes side last week.
The Galaxy peaked at No. 3 in the Sports Illustrated rankings while ranking No. 6 on MLSsoccer.com, and No. 7 on ESPN FC.
The complete rankings with explanations are below:
Gyasi Zardes scored twice early in the second half as the Galaxy got back on track with a 3-1 win over San Jose in a game that featured seven yellow cards and a red.
Going up a man was a good thing, but moving Gyasi Zardes back to forward was even better. The Galaxy look like a different team when he's occupying defenders in the 18 and taking attention away from Robbie Keane et al.
LA got the benefit of playing up a man for the entire second half of the season's first "California Clásico" and made it count, beating San Jose 3-1. It will be interesting to see how Bruce Arena handles replacing Steven Gerrard after the Englishman's injury.
