18 years ago today, Robbie Keane began his illustrious career for the Republic of Ireland.


LA Galaxy forward Robbie Keane made his first appearance for the Republic of Ireland on March 25, 1998, against the Czech Republic. The teenage striker notched his first of 67 international goals in October of that year. The 34-year-old is the all-time appearance leader for Ireland in both appearances (143 appearances) and goals scored (67 goals). 

The Republic of Ireland is hosting Switzerland on the 18th anniversary of Keane's first appearance, but the striker will not be available. He is expected to play against  Slovakia next week.
