Three things we learned from the LA Galaxy’s 0-0 draw with Colorado Rapids

CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Things We Learned from the LA Galaxy’s scoreless draw with the Colorado Rapids.

LA GALAXY SCORING WOES CONTINUE IN SCORELESS DRAW

The LA Galaxy’s scoreless streak was extended to 302 minutes in the 0-0 draw against the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday.

Los Angeles had dangerous moments throughout the match but weren’t sharp enough in the final third. The Galaxy’s best moment came in the final 10 minutes of the match when Ema Boateng saw his shot from inside the penalty area saved off the line by Colorado’s Dennis Castillo. Not only have the Galaxy failed to score since May 28, but the team is now winless in six matches.

To add to the Galaxy's misery, the team is winless in three straight at home, and a Galaxy player has not scored at StubHub Center since May 8. With Steven Gerrard and Giovani Dos Santos returning back to full fitness, the Galaxy will be hopeful of finding their attacking spark on Saturday when they travel to take on the San Jose Earthquakes.

GIOVANI DOS SANTOS STILL WORKING HIS WAY BACK FROM INJURY

Giovani dos Santos had a subdued first appearance in his return from a quad injury in the Galaxy’s 0-0 draw with the Colorado Rapids.

Dos Santos went 72 minutes in the Galaxy’s scoreless draw and was partnered up top alongside Jack McBean. Throughout his shift, the Mexican striker was unable to get into dangerous spots as he often was forced to drift deep into midfield to find the ball. The Mexican international’s best chance came in the 64th minute when a a ball dropped to the forward in the box but he sent his effort high into the StubHub Center stands.

The Galaxy will need dos Santos to be at his best on Saturday when they head to Stanford Stadium for their final California Clásico of the season against the San Jose Earthquakes.

JACK MCBEAN IMPRESSES IN RETURN TO THE FIRST TEAM

Jack McBean showed the he belongs in Major League Soccer after a strong showing in his first match since re-joining the Galaxy’s first team on Wednesday.

McBean’s appearance was his first league start for the Galaxy since 2013 but the forward has had a successful few seasons with Galaxy II in the meantime. The 21-year-old was unable to get back on the score sheet but provided a strong hold-up presence and nearly scored on a 30-yard blast midway through the second half in a showing that earned plaudits from both coaches.

Given the Galaxy’s need for an effective target man, expect McBean to see more playing time in the coming weeks until Robbie Keane and Gyasi Zardes return from international duty.
