Three things we learned from the LA Galaxy’s 1-0 win over the Seattle Sounders

SEATTLE – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Things We Learned from the Galaxy’s 1-0 victory over Seattle Sounders FC.  The win helped the Galaxy earn their second road win of the season, equaling last season's tally.

ROBBIE KEANE SCORES YET AGAIN TO LEAD THE GALAXY TO VICTORY

Robbie Keane just can’t stop scoring.

The Galaxy’s Irish captain scored the only goal of the afternoon in the 15th minute for his fifth of the season. The finish was a classic poacher’s tally as Gyasi Zardes found the forward unmarked in the penalty area for the easy finish past Seattle’s Stefan Frei. Keane has now scored in both matches since returning from Euro 2016.

Keane’s goal was his 10th all-time in 15 appearances against Seattle.

JELLE VAN DAMME INSTRUMENTAL IN SHUTOUT

Robbie Keane may have scored the goal, but center back Jelle Van Damme was the hero in the Galaxy’s 1-0 victory over Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday afternoon.

Throughout the match, Van Damme made clutch clearances and won balls in the air to prevent the Sounders from connecting with striker Clint Dempsey. When the Sounders did break through, Van Damme and the rest of the defense were there to make the stop as the Belgian made four of the team’s nine defensive blocks. Blocked shots weren’t the only statistic that showed Van Damme’s defensive dominance over Seattle as the center back made five interceptions and a whopping 10 clearances.

As the team enters the second half of the season, they’ll need more performances like this from the burly Belgian defender.

THE LA GALAXY’S DEFENSE IS COMING TOGETHER

Watch out Major League Soccer, the LA Galaxy’s defense is beginning to find their form.

The Galaxy’s 1-0 victory over the Sounders secured the team’s third consecutive shutout in all competitions. After Robbie Keane had put the Galaxy ahead in the 15th minute, the Galaxy defense was held firm against a Sounders side that frantically searched for an equalizer. However, unlike earlier in the season when the Galaxy struggled to hold leads late, the backline, marshaled by an excellent Brian Rowe, kept the Sounders off the board.

Although the defense allowed several opportunities for Seattle to equalize, the performance was a step in the right direction for Bruce Arena’s men.
