In continuation of LA Galaxy Foundation Fridays volunteer efforts and Protect the Pitch sustainability program, LA Galaxy Foundation partnered with Heal the Bay to host a Corporate Beach Clean-up Day at Dockweiler Beach on Friday, June 24th. Heal the Bay is an environmental nonprofit organization dedicated to making the
coastal waters and watersheds of Greater Los Angeles safe, healthy and clean.

The event invited LA Galaxy fans, staff, Star Squad and corporate partner, Alcatel, for a day of competition with the top trash collectors receiving LA Galaxy summer swag. In total, volunteers picked up 178 pounds of trash and over 1,200 cigarette butts from our local beach in Playa Del Rey.

Protect the Pitch is the LA Galaxy’s commitment to help create a more sustainable sport and a more sustainable world through our own sustainability program. Through the Protect the Pitch sustainability program, we are reducing the environmental impact of our games and practices, supporting environmental projects in our community, and inspiring our fans to help create healthier, more sustainable communities.

The Foundation Fridays initiative follows the LA Galaxy’s 20 for Twenty, a year-long community outreach program that saw the implementation of over 100 community service projects to celebrate the club’s 20th season in MLS. Thus far, Foundation Fridays’ volunteers have participated in a Hawthorne Park Paint Day, a Vietnam Veteran Luncheon at the West Los Angeles VA Hospital, Tree Caring Event in Inglewood as well as a Memorial Day Habitat for Humanity Build Day in Montebello. Future events to include a Meal of Love with Ronald McDonald Los Angeles House, Relay for Life in Carson and LA Galaxy Homeless Awareness Sleep Out at StubHub Center.
