CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Things We Learned from the Galaxy’s 2-1 victory over the Portland Timbers.
GALAXY ROAD WOES ARE OVER
The LA Galaxy earned their fare share of criticism for their dismal road performances in 2014 and 2015, but it appears that the team has put those worries to bed in 2016.
Bruce Arena’s men earned their third road win of the campaign and fourth in all competitions on Saturday with their 2-1 win over the Portland Timbers at Providence Park. Whereas in past years, the Galaxy were plagued by defensive breakdowns on the road, Los Angeles managed the game effectively as they bagged two early goals and then held on to secure the three points.
With the Western Conference looking extremely competitive, the Galaxy’s newfound ability to earn points on the road and close out matches could make them favorites for another MLS Cup title.
BRIAN ROWE IS PROVING TO BE ONE OF THE BEST IN MLS
Brian Rowe continues to grow with each and every match and he put in another sterling performance on Saturday in the LA Galaxy’s 2-1 win over the Portland Timbers.
Rowe made five saves and came up big late in the match as Los Angeles once again bagged three points on the road. The 28-year-old’s brightest moment came in the 74th minute when Rowe sprinted off his line to snatch a ball off the foot of Fanendo Adi to prevent a sure goal for the home side.
If Rowe continues his current form, the goalkeeper should be in the conversation as one of the league’s top players in his position.
KEANE IS KING OF CASCADIA
The three Cascadia clubs might want to consider just giving Robbie Keane the Cascadia Cup trophy because the Galaxy’s Irish striker is the unquestioned king of the Pacific Northwest.
Keane scored his ninth regular season career goal against the Portland Timbers in the Galaxy’s win on Saturday. The 36-year-old striker now has 21 goals and 12 assists in regular season matches against the three Cascadian clubs.
The Galaxy will look for more Cascadia goals from Keane next Sunday when they make their final trip of the year to the Pacific Northwest to take on Seattle Sounders FC.
