CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy center back Jelle Van Damme is up for Etihad Airways’ Player of the Month after a stellar month of July.
The Galaxy went undefeated in the month of July and Van Damme’s contributions in central defense. Among the league leaders in blocks, interceptions and clearances, Van Damme has quickly become one of the league’s top central defenders.
For his success, the 32-year-old was named to the 2016 MLS All-Star team and earned back-to-back MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week selections in late-July. Nominated alongside Van Damme are Toronto FC playmaker Sebastian Giovinco, Portland Timbers goalkeeper Jake Gleeson, New York City FC midfielder Frank Lampard, and Orlando City SC striker Kevin Molino.
