The United States Women’s National Team opened up their 2016 Olympic Games with a 2-0 win over New Zealand on Wednesday.
Carli Lloyd and Alex Morgan scored for the USWNT who opened Group G with a victory at Mineirão Stadium.
Lloyd gave the Americans a lead in the ninth minute when she nodded a Tobin Heath cross into the back New Zealand net. The goal is Lloyd’s seventh Olympic goal. Morgan doubled the Americans just 34 seconds into the second half when she finished a Morgan Brian pass to close out the scoring.
With the win, the U.S. leads Group G with France and Colombia yet to play. The Americans take on France on Saturday in Belo Horizonte.
