Three things we learned from the LA Galaxy’s 2-2 draw with the Chicago Fire

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Things We Learned from the LA Galaxy’s 2-2 draw with the Chicago Fire.

GIOVANI DOS SANTOS HELPS GALAXY RESCUE A POINT

If the LA Galaxy are going to hoist another MLS Cup, they’ll need more showings from Giovani dos Santos like the one he delivered during Wednesday's draw.

Dos Santos made an immediate impact after coming into the match in the 60th minute, providing needed creativity to an offense that fell stagnant after a bright opening half hour. Dos Santos bagged a goal in his 30-minute stint and nearly got a second if not for an offside call that denied the Galaxy three points.

Given the Galaxy’s recent offensive struggles, they’ll need plenty more game-changing performances from the Mexican striker if they are to begin a climb up the standings.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE LA GALAXY AFTER THIS?

After another frustrating showing, just where do the LA Galaxy go from here?

The Galaxy ended their East Coast swing with only a point in a pair of matches that saw the Galaxy deliver two far-from-perfect performances. Currently sitting in fifth place in the Western Conference, the time is now for the Galaxy to begin a run, if they’re to improve their standing before the MLS Cup Playoffs.

Los Angeles must rebound on Saturday when they host Vancouver Whitecaps FC in a match with major postseason implications.

CLEMENT DIOP HAS WILD EVENING IN HIS SECOND MLS APPEARANCE

Clement Diop endured an up-and-down showing in the Galaxy’s draw with Chicago.

The French shot stopper made six saves in the tie, but displayed a few erratic moments against the Fire. As he’s shown with Galaxy II, Diop made several bold runs off his line, one of which resulted in a goal in the 34th minute and another in the 53rd that very nearly ended in a goal if not for Luis Solignac’s horrid miss from the doorstep.

As the young ‘keeper looks to continue to improve, he’ll need to cut down on those erratic moments if he is to get more time with the first team. Whether Diop continues to start on Saturday remains in question, as normal starter Brian Rowe has resumed training with Galaxy II during the road trip and could return to the starting lineup.
