Three things we learned from the LA Galaxy’s 0-0 draw with Vancouver Whitecaps FC

VANCOUVER, B.C. – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his “Three Things We Learned” from the Galaxy’s scoreless draw with Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

GALAXY CAN’T CAPITALIZE ON RED CARD, BUT A POINT ON THE ROAD WILL DO

The LA Galaxy were on the front foot throughout their match with Vancouver but were unable to find the back of the net despite going up a man in the first half.

The Whitecaps went down to ten men when MatĂas Laba picked up a red card for foul on Mike Magee in the 28th minute. Holding the man advantage, the Galaxy pressed forward from the remainder of the match but were unable to get past Vancouver goalkeeper David Ousted, who made a number of remarkable saves to keep the game scoreless.

Although the Galaxy were unable to pick up three points in Vancouver, Bruce Arena and company should be pleased with their first point away from home in 2016.

LA GALAXY MUST GET MORE AGGRESSIVE IN THE FINAL THIRD

All the ingredients were there for the LA Galaxy to get three points in Vancouver, but Los Angeles’ attack could not find the back of the net.

Los Angeles registered 15 shots on the night, but only four were able to find the target against Vancouver. Despite the huge shot advantage, the Galaxy appeared tentative in front of goal, as attack were often too looking to pass the ball in search for the perfect shot. The Galaxy’s struggles were so apparent that Bruce Arena stated the Galaxy were too willing to “walk in” the ball into the net.

Heading into next week’s clash against the Portland Timbers at StubHub Center, Arena will have plenty to think about regarding his attacking personnel. With Giovani dos Santos on the mend, we may see the Mexican striker return to the lineup and try to cure the Galaxy’s offensive woes.

LASSITER MAKES FIRST CAREER MLS START

Ariel Lassiter showed his quality in his first second appearance for the LA Galaxy first team on Saturday night in Vancouver.

The 21-year-old made his first career MLS start in the Galaxy’s match with Vancouver and went 66 minutes in the draw. Teaming up with striker Sebastian Lletget, the striker made the runs that we’ve come to expect from the forward, but often found himself starved of service.

Lassiter came closest in the 47th minute when he nearly got on the end of an Ema Boateng cross only to have his effort go out of bounds. With Robbie Keane still sidelined due to injury, only time will tell if Lassiter will continue to get minutes for the Galaxy.
