Galaxy II defender Jefrey Payeras called up to Guatemala National Team for World Cup Qualifier matches

CARSON, Calif. (Monday, Aug. 29, 2016) – LA Galaxy II defender Jefrey Payeras has been named to the 23-player roster by Guatemala Head Coach Walter Claveri for the team’s pair of upcoming World Cup Qualifier matches against Trinidad and Tobago and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The announcement marks the second call-up of the year for Payeras, who went 90 minutes in his international debut for Guatemala in a friendly with Central American rival Panama on Aug. 10.

Guatemala will first travel to face Trinidad and Tobagoon Friday, Sept. 2 at 4:00 p.m. PT at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.


On Tuesday, Sept. 6, Guatemala will return home to take on St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The match will be played at 4:15 p.m. PT at Mateo Flores Stadium in Guatemala City.
Payeras, 22, joined Los Dos in March and has been a key starter at center back for the team since his arrival. He’s made 22 appearances and while tallying one goal. In previous years, Payeras has trained with the Guatemalan U-20s and has played with the Guatemalan U-23s.
Born in Hawthorne, Calif., Payeras has Guatemalan citizenship by way of his parents who are both native to Santa Rosa in Guatemala.
