Bruce Arena provides an update on Robbie Keane ahead of match against Columbus Crew SC | INSIDER

CARSON, Calif. – Robbie Keane’s status is up in the air for the LA Galaxy’s clash with Columbus Crew SC on Saturday.

Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena confirmed to reporters on Thursday that Keane will not start Saturday, but he expects his team captain to be back in the country in time for the match with Columbus. Keane went 56 minutes in his final game for the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday, scoring a goal in his international swansong.

Keane missed the Galaxy’s previous two league matches against Chicago Fire and Vancouver Whitecaps FC with a muscle strain, but Arena believes Keane is likely fine going forward.

“He might be carrying an injury, but he’s healthy,” Arena said. “I don’t know his muscular situation right now, he had a muscle strain that kept him out of the Vancouver game, but he played [Wednesday], so that indicates to me that he’s making progress.  How much progress? I don’t know.”
