Three things we learned from the LA Galaxy’s 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo

GALAXY EVENTUALLY BREAK DOWN DEFENSIVE-MINDED DYNAMO

Bruce Arena’s men won’t be awarded any style points for Friday’s win, but the Galaxy were able to do just enough to get by a cagey Houston Dynamo squad on Friday

With Robbie Keane unable to find the back of the net and an organized Dynamo defense clogging the channels for the rest of the Galaxy’s attacking players, Los Angeles were held scoreless until the 66th minute. The eventual game-winning goal was a testament to the sloppy nature of the game as Steven Gerrard scored off a deflection off a deflected Keane attempt.

No one will describe the match against the Dynamo as a classic, but Galaxy will likely need many more showings like Friday if they’re to challenge for an MLS Cup.

HUSIDIC AND LARENTOWICZ CONTINUE TO SHINE IN DE JONG’s ABSENCE

The tandem of Baggio Huisidic and Jeff Larentowicz isn’t the most stylish in MLS, but the two midfielders put in another impressive performances in place of the suspended Nigel de Jong.

Throughout the match against the Dynamo, the two midfielders combined to not only break up play but also helped out in the attack with clever passes. Husidic contribution proved to be vital as he provided the key pass that ultimately led to Gerrard’s game-winner.

De Jong will return to the lineup later this week, but the quiet impact that Husidic and Larentowicz have made in his absence cannot be understated.

The Galaxy are HOT! HOT! HOT!

The LA Galaxy are enfuego.

After their 1-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo, the Galaxy are now 4-0-0 in their last four matches across all competitions, shutting out their opponents each time. Not only are the Galaxy riding a four-game winning streak, but Bruce Arena’s squad is undefeated in six matches in both U.S. Open Cup and league play and have not conceded a goal since Chad Barrett’s late equalizer in their 1-1 draw with the San Jose Earthquakes on June 25.

Thanks to their latest midsummer push, the Galaxy sit just five points back of Western Conference leader FC Dallas with two games in hand on their Texas rivals.
