LA Galaxy forward Alan Gordon added to USMNT roster for USA-Mexico

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016) – LA Galaxy forward Alan Gordon has been called up by U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann to the USMNT’s roster for USA-Mexico, presented by AT&T, on Friday, Nov. 11 in Columbus, Ohio (4:45 p.m. PT, FS1/Univision). The game marks the first contest of the Hexagonal in CONCACAF, the final round of 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying.

Gordon will arrive in Columbus later today to join the USMNT. He replaces Seattle Sounders FC forward Jordan Morris, who was diagnosed with a hamstring strain suffered during the first half of the FC Dallas-Sounders FC playoff match last Sunday night.

Gordon, 35, was also named to the USMNT’s roster for FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches last November, where he was an unused substitution in games against St. Vincent & The Grenadines and Trinidad & Tobago. Prior to that camp, the Galaxy forward appeared for the USMNT during the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, where he played in the second half of the semifinal match against Jamaica. The Long Beach product made his debut in 2012 as a substitute against Antigua and Barbuda in a FIFA World Cup Qualifying match when he provided the game-winning assist to forward Eddie Johnson. This season for the Galaxy, the forward finished with three goals in 22 appearances during the MLS Regular Season, in addition to notching a goal and two assists in three Audi 2016 MLS Cup Playoff appearances.

For the third time in five World Cup Qualifying cycles dating back to 2001, the MNT begins the Final Round with a home match against Mexico. There are 15 players on the USMNT roster with World Cup experience, and a total of 17 who have seen action against Mexico, including 11 who have previously faced El Tri in World Cup Qualifying.
