CARSON, Calif. – The UCLA Bruins were the only team boasting LA Galaxy Academy alums to advance from the opening round of the 2016 NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament on Thursday.

Galaxy Academy alum Willie Raygoza found the back of the net in UCLA’s 4-2 victory over Colgate at Drake Stadium. Former Galaxy Academy member Brian Illoski also appeared in the match while Juan Cervantes, Christian Chavez, Willie Raygoza, Robert Knights, and Malcolm Jones did not see action. UCLA will now travel to face Louisville on Nov. 20.

The UCLA contingent won’t be the only players still involved in the tournament, as Drew Murphy’s North Carolina begin the competition on Nov. 20 against Florida Gold Coast University.

AJ Vergara and Christian Onalfo’s San Diego State wasn’t as fortunate as they were eliminated in a penalty kick shootout to UNLV. Despite the defeat, Vergara did find the back of the net to help send the match to penalties. Elsewhere, Rey Ortiz’s Portland Pilots were also bounced in a penalty kick shootout following a scoreless draw with the University of New Mexico.
