Jelle Van Damme finishes third in MLS Newcomer of the Year voting | INSIDER

CARSON, Calif. -- LA Galaxy central defender Jelle Van Damme finished third in the voting for the 2016 MLS Newcomer of the Year award. 


Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Nicolás Lodeiro won the award with a nearly 37 percent share of the voting, beating Columbus Crew SC striker Ola Kamara and Van Damme. Lodeiro was instrumental in helping Seattle clinch their eighth consecutive playoff berth, notching four goals and eight assists in 14 appearances. 


The award is voted on by club management officials from across the league, media, and current MLS players.


Van Damme made 28 appearances for the Galaxy in his first season for the club, earning four assists. The 33-year-old also finished second in the voting for the league's Defender of the Year.
