A day in the life of an LA Galaxy Academy student athlete

Every morning, members of the LA Galaxy Academy arrive at StubHub Center for the chance to follow their dreams and accomplish their goals.

Like any high school student, the U-16 and U-18 teams arrive at the stadium and a promptly assigned a schedule designed to help them maximize their potential.

Just like their counterparts with the LA Galaxy first team and LA Galaxy II, the U-16 and U-18 players arrive in the morning to prepare for training. The schedule is staggered with the U-16’s coming in a full hour before their U-18 counterparts. Each group then heads to training which takes place at 8:45 for the youngest group and at 10:15 –the same time typically as Galaxy and Galaxy II – for the U-18s.

Training typically runs between an hour and 45 minutes to two hours depending on the age group and the situation. Once the soccer element of their day is complete, their transition into regular high school students begins with the favored activity of teens everywhere: lunch.

After the fun portion of the day is complete, the work truly begins as the Academy members head to the class from 12-4pm where they are given personalized instruction from their learning coaches and receive support from content area specialists as they complete their assignments.  All before heading home at 4 pm each day.

There are slight deviations from the schedule at times, with the squads participating in bi-weekly weight room sessions with EXOS, once a month Bio, Chem, and Physics Labs in the stadium’s event suites, and even a monthly enrichment activity that includes anything from a guest speaker to even a field trip.

LA Galaxy photographer Stephanie Romero snapped some footage of the club’s brightest young stars on a typical day as they look to turn success on the training ground and in the classroom into a future in professional soccer.
