LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017)
– LA Galaxy forward Giovani dos Santos tallied an assist in the 21st minute on Mexico’s opening goal in El Tricolor’s 1-0 victory over Iceland Wednesday night.
The 27-year-old went 45 minutes in his first appearance in 2017 for El Tricolor in front of 30,615 fans at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, marking the first time Mexico’s senior squad visited the City of Lights.
The Galaxy forward most recently represented Mexico when he started in both of Mexico’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers last year, helping his side earn four points including a 2-1 win over the USMNT in Columbus, Ohio.
Dos Santos has now made 87 appearances for Mexico all time, scoring 15 goals.
Tonight’s game served as an important opportunity for both national teams to fine-tune their lineups ahead of critical FIFA World Cup qualifiers, as Mexico returns to CONCACAF Hexagonal Round action at home on March 24, 2017 against Costa Rica.
Dos Santos will now return to Los Angeles to rejoin preseason training with the LA Galaxy at StubHub Center. Dos Santos and the Galaxy will now travel to Las Vegas for a preseason game against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, February 11 at 7 p.m. PT at Cashman Field.
