Alex Zotinca was born in Sibiu, Romania. His professional career began when he was 17 years old at FC Inter Sibiu (FC Hermannstadt) in Romania’s 2nd Division where he played for three years after graduating from their Academy.
In 1998 he joined 1st Division Romanian powerhouse, Steaua Bucharest. To this day, playing for Steaua was one of the proudest moments of his career. In 2000 Zotinca moved to the United States and played for the MISL team Kansas City Comets from 2000 – 2003. He then played for Major League Soccer’s Kansas City Wizards from 2003 to 2007 and became the first Romanian player to play in MLS. Zotinca then joined Chivas USA in 2007 where he played three seasons.
After a 16-year career and playing over 300 professional games, Zotinca retired at the end of the 2010 season and spent the next several years coaching youth teams including Head Coach for the Chivas USA Academy and Assistant Coach for the US Soccer U19 National Team.
On June 1st, 2022, Zotinca joined the LA Galaxy as Manager of Domestic Scouting. Prior to his arrival, he worked at the US Soccer Federation for 8 years as a Youth National Scout, Technical Advisor, and Talent ID Manager for the West region where he led a team that scouted and recommended players for the USSF Youth National Teams. Zotinca holds a USSF A-Youth Coaching license, USSF Academy Director license, and USSF Talent ID license.
