Kicks for Kids Recap - May 25, 2011

LA Galaxy vs Houston Dynamo

The LA Galaxy faced the Houston Dynamo during a mid-week match-up and the young fans from LAPD-SouthEast PALS, Long Beach Rescue Mission, YPI 21st Century/Rock on Education, Long Beach Cesar Chavez League enjoyed the match between the two rivals.

During a visit to the Kicks for Kids’ section 127 a recipient was asked if this was his first game, “this is my fifth or sixth Galaxy game I have been to,” said the teenager from the Long Beach Rescue Mission, one of the many beneficiaries of the program. Long Beach Rescue Mission’s chaperone stated, “We have been a part of this program for three years and moments like these for the children involved in Kicks for Kids would not be possible. The kids here today would not be able to attend a game with their families because the parents are not able to afford the cost. This program gives us an opportunity to provide a distraction for some of these kids and enjoy a fun time with friends their ages.”

For the LA Galaxy’s first Wednesday night game, forward Landon Donovan continued his torrid scoring pace as he netted his eighth goal of the season. For the first 44th minutes, the Galaxy had zero shots on goal and was awarded a penalty kick because of a handball just before halftime. As Donovan stepped up, he easily converted the spot kick for the 1-0 lead that stood for the rest of the game. The Kicks for Kids section braved the late time on a weekday but were satisfied with the outcome of the game.

With support of the Kicks for Kids Community Partners, non-profit groups like the Long Beach Rescue Mission are given the opportunity to attend games and recreational outings.
