LA Galaxy vs Chivas USA
On Sunday, October 16, the LA Galaxy played their last regular season home game against Chivas USA in the annual SuperClasico match. This was the most highly requested and anticipated game of the year. Only a few hundred kids from the Kicks for Kids database were invited to the game. AYSO Region 514, Basen, Inc., Blythe St. Project-Casa Esperanza, Boys & Girls Club of West San Gabriel Valley, Casa Libre, David & Margaret Youth & Family Services, Hollywood PALs, and LAPD-SouthEast PALs were part of the 27,000 fans who watched the 2011 Supporters Shield winners close off the regular season undefeated at home.
From the moment the kids entered the stadium, they heard the chanting of the Galaxy’s Riot Squad yelling across the stadium to a Chivas USA supporter’s group. The children walked to the NorthEast corner of the stadium to sit in section 127. Fireworks exploded into the air signaling the start of the match. The kids cheered on Galaxy players, in particular the Galaxy’s Chad Barrett, who with a nice cross, executed the winning goal during the second half.Kicks for Kids Recap - August 20, 2011
The kids waved their navy blue and gold “Let’s Go Galaxy!” towels to celebrate Chad’s goal. Some of the kids pretended to make referee calls during the games and raised their own yellow and red foam cards when the referees made calls during the game. The final whistle blew concluding the match with a 1-0 win for the Galaxy. It was an incredible night filled with rally towels, foam cards, smiles, and snacks made possible by the LA Galaxy Foundation and its 2011 Kicks for Kids Community Partners.
