LA Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena confirms Jack McBean underwent surgery

CARSON, Calif. –LA Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena confirmed on Tuesday that Jack McBean underwent surgery for a fractured left clavicle suffered during the 51st minute of the LA Galaxy’s 2-0 victory over Real Salt Lake.

The injury occurred after McBean collided with RSL center back Nat Borchers leading him to be substituted for fellow Homegrown forward Gyasi Zardes two minutes later. No timetable has been set for McBean’s return.

The 18-year-old forward had become a regular in the Galaxy rotation by appearing in ten matches across all competitions including five starts all coming in MLS play. McBean even began to contribute on the scoresheet as he notched two goals and two assists, one of which came in LA’s win over RSL.

On Tuesday in the club’s first training session since the victory, Landon Donovan expressed his disappointment for McBean.

“I was bummed for Jack, he’s played really well,” He’s been here a couple of years now and trained well, played well for the reserve team, now he’s getting his chance to play. It was a bummer for him, but it is part of the game, but he’ll come back and be ready.”

When asked if McBean’s injury may provide the youngster with an smidgen of perspective after his run of form, Donovan agreed.

“He’s young and he just wants to keep playing and playing and it’s frustrating when he’s doing well so and that happens. He’ll be fine and sometimes it’s good to take a step back, I agree, but we know that he’ll come back and be ready.”
