Robbie Rogers

How Acquired: Signed by the Galaxy after acquiring the right of first refusal for him from the Chicago Fire in exchange for Mike Magee on May 25, 2013.

MLS Highlights

2016: A couple of injuries in the 2016 season including an extended recovery after an ankle injury in June sidelined LA Galaxy defender Robbie Rogers for much of the summer. Despite injuries, Rogers was able to make 21 appearances and 19 starts in his fourth season with the club. He tallied one goal and two assists on the season and started in each of the team’s three playoff matches.

2015: In his first full season as a defender, Rogers solidified his identity as member of the Galaxy organization and its defense. He started in 26 of the 27 games he appeared and added a goal and three assists on the season. He was twice selected to MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week: Week 15 at Columbus and Week 25 at NYCFC.  

2014: Made 19 appearances and 15 starts for the club during the regular season, recording two assists. In the summer, Rogers made the move to left back after injuries to James Riley and Todd Dunivant and excelled on the Galaxy backline that allowed the fewest goals in MLS that season. Rogers continued his form into the MLS Cup Playoffs, where he started in all five matches and recorded an assist during the club’s run to a fifth MLS Cup title. Signed a contract extension following the 2014 season.

2013: Joined the Galaxy during the MLS Regular Season and made his appearance in a 4-0 win at StubHub Center against Seattle Sounders FC. Went on to make 11 total appearances with seven starts in his first season in LA.

2011: Made 27 appearances for the Crew, notching two goals and seven assists, which led the Crew. Played in his final match with the club against the Colorado Rapids in the MLS Cup Playoffs wildcard game in October. Received the ‘Crew Hardest Working Player’ award from Columbus. Rejected a contract extension with Columbus in order to become a free agent.

2010: Appeared in 20 matches, with 17 starts... Had one goal (5/8)... Had  one game-winning goal (5/8)... Had one yellow card (5/8)... Missed matches on 5/20 and  5/23 due to USMNT Call-up.. Missed matches on 8/5, 8/21, 8/28, 9/4, 911 and 9/25 due to knee injury... Called up to the USMNT World Cup training camp on 5/11 2010  Playoffs: Started in both games scoring the game winner against Colorado on 11/6/10. In the U.S. Open Cup, he started vs. Rochester on 6/29 and came on as a sub in the final at  Seattle on 10/5. In MLS Cup Playoffs, he scored the game winner against Colorado in the 2010 Eastern Conference Semifinal.

2009: Appeared in 22 matches, with 20 starts... Had one goal (8/8) and a career-high five assists... Had four game-winning assists... Had two yellow cards... Missed matches on 7/4, 7/11, 7/18, 7/25 and 10/10 due to call-up with U.S. MNT... Missed matches on 3/28 and 4/11 with L hamstring strain. In the MLS Cup Playoffs, he made two appearances, with one start, in series vs. RSL. In the 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League, he appeared in five matches, with four starts and two goals.

2008: Appeared in 27 games, with 26 starts... Selected to 2008 MLS Best XI squad... Had six goals (two on 4/12 vs. Chivas, 5/3 at K.C., two on 5/10 at S.J. and 9/18 vs. N.Y.) and three assists (7/17 vs. K.C., 9/27 at N.E. and 10/12 at Chicago)... Three of his goals were game-winners (4/12, 5/3, 9/18)... His goal vs. N.Y. on 9/18 was named MLS Goal of the Week, a finalist for MLS Goal of the Year and  Crew Goal of the Year... Selected to MLS All-Star First XI, but was with U.S. Olympic Team and did not play.. Won MLS Player of the Week honors  5/12 (Week 7)... Scored a goal in the international exhibition vs. Independiente of Argentina on 7/9... Missed matches on 7/27 and 8/2 while away with the U.S. Olympic Team in Beijing, China. Scored one goal in the Crew’s run to the 2008 MLS Cup title on 11/8 vs. K.C.

2007: Appeared in 10 games, with six starts... Had three goals (6/16 at N.E. and two 10/20 at D.C.) and one assist (6/16 at N.E.) on the season... Made his MLS and Crew debut on 4/14, coming on as a sub against RSL... Made first start of his MLS career on 6/3 at Chicago... Notched first goal and assist of MLS and professional career on 6/16 at N.E. ... Missed six games from 6/20-7/14 while with the U.S. Under-20 National Team at FIFA Under-20 World Cup... Acquired by the Crew via weighted lottery on 3/8/07... 2007 U.S. Open Cup: Started the Crew’s USOC qualifier vs. L.A. on 4/24... 2007 Reserve Division: Appeared in eight games, with seven starts... Had two goals and two assists in reserve division play.

Professional Highlights

Passed up his three remaining seasons of eligibility at the University of Maryland to sign with SC Heerenveen, one of the top teams in the Dutch first division, in August 2006. Played with Heerenveen’s reserves, getting time in five games, including three starts, and scoring two goals. Scored his first goal in just his second match with the reserves to help defeat PSV, 3-1, on 9/8. Scored his second goal against FC Twente on 9/26 in a 3-0 win. Secured his release in Feb. 2007 to sign with MLS.

Signed with Leeds United in England in January 2012 and went on to make four appearances for the club. Made six appearances on loan to Stevenage FC in England.

International Highlights

Has 18 international caps with the USMNT. He sas also represented the U.S. extensively at the U-23, U-20, U-18 and U-17 levels... 2010: Earned starts against Honduras on 1/23 and El Salvador on 2/24… 2009: Earned his first career cap with the senior national team on 1/24, starting friendly vs. Sweden... Represented the U.S. in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup… Scored first career international goal on 7/4 vs. Grenada in the opening match of the 2009 Gold Cup, and also had two assists in the match on the way to being named Man of the Match… Totaled one goal and three assists in 2009 international play… 2008: Was a member of the U.S. Olympic Team that competed in Beijing, China... Started in all three Olympic matches for the U.S...  2007: Made his Under-23 debut in a pair of friendlies in China against its U-23s on 12/13 and 12/16, scoring in the latter... Started all 10 games in which he appeared for the U.S. U-20s in 2007, scoring one goal and registering five assists... At the U-20 World Cup in Canada, helped lead the U.S. to an impressive 3-1-1 record in a five-game run to the quarterfinals, where the squad was eliminated by Austria in overtime, 2-1... Spent one year at the University of Maryland, where he helped the Terrapins to the 2005 NCAA championship, along with current Crew teammate Jason Garey... Started 20 of the 22 matches in which he saw action, scoring seven goals and registering five assists for a total of 19 points… Earned honorable mention on the SoccerTimes.com Men’s All-American team... Selected to ACC All-Conference Freshman team, Top Drawer Soccer Rookie Team of the Year, Soccer America All-Freshman second team, and College Soccer News All-Freshmen third team.

The son of Theresa and Robert Rogers... Has three sisters, Alicia, Nicole and Katie, and a younger brother, Timmy... His maternal grandfather is a graduate of The Ohio State University and his mother spent her early childhood years in Dublin, Ohio, before the family moved to California... Enjoys music, surfing and ping pong in his free time... Lists Zlatan Ibrahimovich as his favorite athlete. Released his book Coming Out to Play in 2014.
